Mariners Harbor ISIS suspect is U.S. citizen originally from Ghana

ISLAND, N.Y.— More details are emerging about the 21-year-old Mariners Harbor man who was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly attacking an FBI agent with a knife while officials searched his home as part of an ongoing ISIS investigation.

When agents went to Fareed Mumuni's house at 63 Mersereau Ave. to execute a search warrant at about 6:35 a.m., he rushed at them, federal court papers allege.

Federal agents and NYPD officers were investigating Mumuni, 21, in connection with an alleged plot by Munther Omar Saleh, a student at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in Queens, to explode pressure cooker bombs.

On Wednesday, Mumuni's neighbor described the young man as nice, polite and helpful.

Mumuni was arraigned in federal court in Brooklyn Wednesday afternoon where his lawyer, Anthony Ricco, said his client is a "quiet, soft-spoken, very bright young man"

But more details have emerged about the defendant's life:
