COURT APPOINTMENTS SINCE 1971
Before John Roberts was confirmed as the new chief justice, the U.S. Supreme Court hadn't had a new justice since Stephen Breyer was appointed in August 1994. This 11-year gap is the longest the court has sat unchanged since the 1820's. Here's a look at Supreme Court justices nominated by presidents since 1975.
